Let's Play
White board artist: Alex Cheung (aka MoC)
Commentary: Ed Espino (aka IV Dude)

White Board Art that started a Revolution!

Should one have fun at work?  I say, "Absolutely!"  Some might say we have too much fun.  Honestly, I don't know how I would be able to function without the tension relieving benefits of laughter.  Here are a few examples of my odd humor:

Humor example #1
In the beginning, my employer inhabited suites off of Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park, CA.  We shared a kitchen area with a few other startups.  MoJO (aka Maurice) was taking issue with unidentified people who were violating his refrigerator space by taking his bottled water.  MoJO was going to great lengths to protect his premium Costco water resources.  At the time I was relatively new to the team.  And watching the high drama unfold was well worth the price of admission into the company.

One afternoon I saw my opportunity to have a little fun.  MoJO brought in a bag of candy (probably snack sized snickers bars) and left it on his desk.  Swearing a fellow employee to secrecy, someone took the bag of candy and hid it in a desk drawer.  MoJO started stomping around like a mad man.  We had a real good laugh after he started to suspect me as the candy thief.
Humor example #2
As some of you may know, my buddy The Kaveman recently stumbled upon a girlfriend.  Shortly after this hell freezing event took hold, I started barraging him with my extra Viagara, Levitra and Cialis spam emails.  I figured if someone was kind enough to send me the spam email, the least I could do was forward them to him.  So every other day or so, I'll yell over the cubicle wall "Yo, check out the email I just sent you, it's important"
Humor example #3 - nicknames
nick·name  (nknm)n.
1. A descriptive name added to or replacing the actual name of a person, place, or thing.

Here's a list of some of the nicknames that I use for people.  For me it brings down the formality nature of business environment:

  • abhiSHREK

  • Alejandro

  • nPacman

  • Vinnie

  • MoJO

  • Ravioli

  • Yim

  • Shaggy

Having fun at work is almost as important as all the MRDs, PRDs and FSs we produce.  These people that I work with aren't just co-workers, they are my friends.  Friends with whom I can take my work and just as important my fun seriously.

There you have my interpretation of the White Board Art titled "Let's Play" by Alex Alejandro Cheung (aka MoC).

Disclaimer: The opinions expressed in the art work commentary are those of the person (me: Ed Espino) occupying the cubicle in which the white board resides and not those of my employer (SpikeSource).
